Introduction to the 6 Kalmas
The 6 Kalmas are fundamental statements that express the core beliefs of Islam. They focus on the oneness of Allah, the prophethood of Muhammad (PBUH), and other essential concepts of faith. They are:
Kalma Tayyibah (The Pure Word)
Kalma Shahadah (The Testimony)
Kalma Tamjeed (The Glorification)
Kalma Tawheed (The Oneness of Allah)
Kalma Istighfar (The Forgiveness)
Kalma Radd-e-Kufr (The Rejection of Disbelief)
Why learn them? Learning the Six Kalmas is essential for every Muslim because they reflect the core beliefs of the faith. Reciting them helps you strengthen your faith, seek forgiveness, and reaffirm your commitment to Islam.
1. Kalma Tayyibah
The First Kalma is the declaration of faith in Islam. “La ilaha illallah, Muhammadur Rasoolullah” Meaning: “There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.”
This Kalma affirms Allah’s oneness and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as His final messenger. This simple statement is the foundation of Islam and what you must say to become a Muslim.
2. Kalma Shahadah
The Second Kalma is the testimony of faith. “Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan abduhu wa rasooluhu” Meaning: “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger.”
Reciting this Kalma is an essential step in embracing Islam. It affirms your faith in Allah’s supremacy and the message of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), showing your commitment to follow Islamic teachings.
3. Kalma Tamjee
The Third Kalma is a praise and glorification of Allah. “Subhan Allahi wal-hamdu lillahi wa la ilaha illallahu wallahu akbar, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billahil aliyyil azeem” Meaning: “Glory be to Allah and all praise be to Allah. There is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. There is no power and no might except from Allah, the Most High, the Most Great.”
This Kalma reminds Muslims to praise Allah daily, acknowledging His perfection, power, and blessings. Reciting it helps you deepen your faith and stay mindful of Him.
4. Kalma Tawheed
The Fourth Kalma emphasizes the belief in Allah’s oneness and that He has no partners. “Laa ilaha illal Lahoo Wahdahoo Laa Shareekalahoo Lahul Mulku Walahul Hamdu Yuhee Wa Yumeetu Wa HoWa Haiy Yul La Yamootu Abadan Abada Zul Jalal Le Wal Ikraami Beyadihil Khair. Wa howa Ala Kulli Shai In Qadeer.” Meaning: “There is no god but Allah. He is one, and He has no partner. His is the kingdom, and to Him is all praise. He gives life and causes death, and He is living and will never die. He is the Lord of Majesty and Honor. In His hand is all good, and He has power over all things.”
This Kalma declares that Allah is the one true God and ruler, rejecting the worship of anyone or anything else. This belief is the fundamental core of Islam.
5. Kalma Astaghfar
The Fifth Kalma is a prayer asking Allah for forgiveness. “Astaghfirullaha Rabbi Min Kulli Zambin Aznabtuhu Amadan Aao Khat An Sirran Aao Alaniatan-Wa Atoobu ilaihe Minaz Zambil Lazee Aalamu Wa Minaz Zambil Lazee La Aalamu innaka Anta Allamul Ghuyoobi Wa Sattaarul Oyobi Wa Ghaffaruz Zunoobi Wala Haola Wala Quwwata illa billahil AliYil Azeem.” Meaning: “I seek forgiveness from Allah, my Lord, for every sin I committed, knowingly or unknowingly, secretly or openly. I turn to You from the sin that I know and from the sin that I do not know. Indeed, You are the Knower of the unseen, the Concealer of faults, and the Forgiver of sins. There is no power and no might except from Allah, the Most High, the Most Great.”
This is a heartfelt plea for forgiveness. Reciting it helps you recognize your mistakes and seek Allah’s mercy to keep your heart and soul pure.
6. Kalma Radd-e-Kufr
The Sixth Kalma is a declaration to reject disbelief and reaffirm your commitment to Islam. “Allah Humma inni Aaoozubika Min An Oshrika Beka Shai Aown Wa Anaa Aalamo Behi Wasthaghfiruka Lima La A’lamu Behi Tubtu Anho Wa Tabarratu Minal Kufri Washshirki Wal Kizbi Wal Jheebati Wal Bidaati Wan Nameemati Wal Fawahishi Wal Bohtani Wal Maasi Kulliha Wa Aslamtoo Wa Aqoolo Laa ilaaha illal Lahoo Mohammadur Rasool Ullah.” Meaning: “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowingly associating any partner with You, and I seek Your forgiveness for that which I do not know. I repent from disbelief, polytheism, falsehood, backbiting, innovations, slandering, and all sins. I submit myself to You and I declare that there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.”
This Kalma is crucial for affirming your faith and rejecting any false beliefs. It helps you stay committed to Islamic principles and strengthens your devotion to Allah.
